| Air Con Rebuild |
|
| When I got the car
there
was no Air Con in the car and the fan for the heater did not work
either.
The fan was a simple fix, the resistor need replacing. The cool air
site
of the air con was a little worse. on the entire system, all I had was
the
compressor the two main pipes to the front of the car and an evaporator
with
both the connections snapped off..... So first things first make a list
of
what's missing, get it , fit it and gas it..... EASY :-) Missing/Needed Parts:- Evaporator core, Condenser, Condenser pipe, Accumulater/dryer, high pressure switch, low pressure switch, pressure release valve and an orifice tube. And then a leak test, vacuum out and a Gas fill. |
|
|
The first job was to replace the
evaporator
core with a NOS. part I got from Dave Howarth. This meant getting
inside
the heater box in the depths of the dash. In this shot I have removed
the
passenger side knee pad and air pipe. I also removed the heater blower
(right
side of shot) |
|
Here is the heater box again from
further
under, you can clearly se the hole where the blower was located. The
trick
now is to remove the bottom half of the heater box to gain access to
the
evaporator core, which should then drop out ;-) |
|
Which it did, As soon as the
bottom
was taken out the core almost fell out, slight wiggle and it was free,
leaving
behind a large void. Top right of this shot you can see the air in let
for
the air con system. There is a vacuum actuated door which is
closed
when heating the car, takes the air from out side, and then opens when
you
switch to cool to take the air from the cabin to be chilled. |
|
Here is the offending evaporator
core.
pretty good condition, bar the connectors being broken off the end of
the
pipe work. the pipe ar now 2" too short. Replacement has been sourced
and
now fitted. |
|
Condenser. This was also missing.
Now
in place it sits nicely on the front of the radiator. Again sourced
from
Dave Howarth. |
|
This is the accumulator end of
the
condenser pipe, attached is the high pressure switch and opposite side
of
the pipe the pressure release valve. This end attaches to the
evaporator
where the orifice tube is. |
|
And this is where it all comes together under
the
passenger side wheel arch, at the accumulator /dryer. Just Gas to go
now,
and hopefully I'll have cold air blowing... Just in time for winter ;-) |
