This is the condition of the
wheels the first time I saw the car. Flaked and chipped ! The tyres
were
next to bald and the side wall cracked. The lug nuts were all beyond
use,
they had all lost the chrome coating in places or completely. |
After a trip to a refurbishers, a new set of Pirelli
P6000's and new lug nuts the wheels are unrecognizable as the originals. You may also see from this shot the front is lower due to a new set of springs which are Euro / Lotus spec |
Following a lot of investigation. I have purchased
these new shock absorbers for the car. These are gas filled as opposed
to oil filled in the OEM shock. This will give the car a better
ride, and will enable me to lower the back end slightly |
From this shot you can compare the old upper wishbone
with the new. Both sides were replaced as they no longer held the
bushes in tight and therefore gave play in the suspension and steering. |
Here you can clearly see where the bush should be,
they
just fell out when I took the wish bone off. Changing the wish bones
gave
me the opportunity to install new bushes and upper ball joints. |
This is the old original rear shock set up. OEM oil
filled shock. Notice the height of the spring retaining cone from the
base of the shock. |
Here is the new set up. Gas filled shock. To hold the whole set up in place I have used a collar around the shock. This clamps tight against the shock body. The original cone and spacers can then be used, I adapted the spacers slightly for a better fit. At the point of putting on the collar you need to decide the height you want. I set mine 1" lower to drop the back end just a little |
