| So just how do you separate the
body and frame of a DeLorean DMC-12 ???? Remove 6 body mounting bolts from inside the car, centre console Remove 2 body mounting bolts from the back of the car, pontoons Remove engine compartment cross brace Remove 2 body mounting bolts from front shock towers Remove 2 brake lines from brake master cylinder Remove clutch line from clutch master cylinder Remove fuel filler hose and vent hose Remove all engine compartment wiring connections in engine bay right corner Remove throttle cable from spool Remove all 3 vacuum hoses from charcoal canister in LH pontoon wall Remove Air con accumulator from inside front right wheel arch by disconnecting from the evaporator core and main hoses (YOU MUST HAVE HAD THE REFRIGERANT EVACUATED FIRST TO DO THIS, cAP ALL OPENINGS TO AVOID GETTING MOISTURE IN THE SYSTEM) Remove hoses connected to heater core through access panel under the hood Remove steering column to rack universal joint Remove speedo cable to angle drive, front left wheel Remove hoses going to coolant tank Remove rear fascia Remove 2 dust shield under trailing arms Remove 2 battery cables running inside battery box Remove 2 emergency brake cables at brake callipers Remove brake power assist vacuum lines from both ends of car Remove vacuum lines to vacuum reserve can and heater valve Remove oxygen sensor wire Remove ignition fly lead on distributor Unplug wiring loom for front light by washer bottle in front left fender You should now be ready to lift the body from the chassis. |

Once all of the above has been disconnected you can
start the process of lifting the body. If you have the facility,
believe me use a four point lift in a garage. If not, you could use the
same process as
I did 24 building blocks and 2 8 ft 4x4 lengths of wood and a
trolley-jack.
Oh and a friend who will keep an eye out for what is going on where you
can't see!! The process was as easy as jack up the front right and put a block under, jack up the front left and put a block under, back right and then left. Then jack the front right and put the second block under and work around again, and again until the body has cleared the wheels. Now comes the fun part, the blocks are in the way, to roll the chassis out, they have to be wider apart than the wheels. This is where the 8 ft 4x4 come in. Lift the front right enough to clear the blocks and give you room to pass under the 4x4, move the blocks outwards to clear the wheel and lower the body onto the 4x4 do the same the other side then to the rear and the chassis will roll straight out. see pictures. This is the method I chose, and I take no responsibility for damage, or injury caused to car or persons attempting to use this process. |
